FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FROM: Scott J. Dunn, Town Administrator
DATE: February 16, 2010
SUBJECT: New Boat Trailer Parking Regulations
The days of unregulated, free boat trailer parking on Varney Point Road next to the Gilford Ice Rink have come to a close.
Effective immediately, limited boat trailer parking may be available to residents and residential taxpayers for a fee of $25 per season.
On January 27, 2010, the Gilford Board of Selectmen adopted a new set of regulations to eliminate the use of the boat trailer parking facility by non-residents. Board Chairman Gus Benavides stated “one of the primary reasons for these new rules was to prevent residents and taxpayers from having to compete with non-residents for the limited number of trailer parking spaces that are available; in the same way that the Board has tried to make Glendale more accessible to our local citizens”.
Another reason for the new regulations was for the Town to eliminate having to deal with unregistered trailers that were being abandoned. Lastly, it was noted that the trailer parking facility would mysteriously fill-up every year by Memorial Day without any knowledge on where the trailers were coming from.
Anyone interested in obtaining a 2010 boat trailer parking permit is urged to register for participation in a lottery drawing for one of 62 spaces by April 1. Boat trailers that are parked at the facility without a valid permit will be towed. A complete copy of the regulations and an application form is available at Town Hall or on line at www.gilfordnh.org.
