LIBRARY TRUSTEES - SEPTEMBER 9, 2007
GILFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY TRUSTEES
MINUTES OF September 9, 2007

PRESENT: Bill Seed, Robert Kammeraad, Tracey Petrozzi, Katherine
Dormody, Polly Sanfacon; Evans Juris and Debra Shackett of the Town Administration; Kate Hamel from the Friends joined later.

BUDGET:- The budget was reviewed with Evans and Debbie in preparation
for their recommendation to the selectmen. Katherine explained the
change in part-time and full time employees (5 full time and 2 part-
time- resulting in 15 additional part-time hours.  Three of the full time employees are taking the health benefits and two are not. Regarding the continuing education allocation which has been under spent to date due to understaffing, etc. it was suggested that courses, etc. for next year be preregistered, so that the money will be encumbered.  The increase in circulation was pointed out.

The new project requests were discussed and prioritized.  ‘Library
Computers’ was the top request - based on usage, 10 additional computers are requested.

Priorities 2 and 3 were surveillance cameras for the new library
(wiring will be done as part of the construction) to accommodate being
able to observe portions of the library that are not readily seen.  The
other item is a new telephone system for the library to replace the 10-
year-old system that was recycled from the Fire Department - even
without a new building, a replacement is needed.

Item 4 are the book drops at the front of the library.  Those would be
requested without a new library.

Evans will notify us when we meet with the Selectmen (now scheduled for Wed.Sept. 19 at 11:00 and Evans and Debbie left.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Regular meeting continued with approval of minutes as submitted.

REPORTS:- Circulation continues to increase. Volunteer hours - Friends hours should be included in this calculation in the future.

PROGRAMS:- Katherine reviewed upcoming programs.  Baby Laptime will now be 2 times a week with Barbara; Storytime 3 times a week with Tasha; Knit Wits 2 times a week.  There are adult programs planned and in October the Young Adult series will begin.  Halloween activities are
planned as is the monthly book club. We will participate in the NH
Reads- Oct. 18 - Fahrenheit 45l.

LIBRARY PROJECT:- Bill Seed reported on the progress on the new library. Construction is going well - construction pretty much on schedule with a target date of June 2008 for occupancy.  The committee is very seriously investigating geo-thermal as a heating and cooling source.  There is a payoff in 6-8 years.

FUNDRAISING - October 14 at Patrick's - 50% of all proceeds from 4:00 on (excepting alcohol) will go to the library.  Encourage friends to go. Notify Kate if you a sense of how many are coming so Allan can be properly staffed.  Old Home Day brought in more money this year.  Many of the books not sold were sold on Amazon for a nice return.

PERSONNEL POLICY:- There have been revisions since Katherine gave copies to us.  When she received the revised copy she will give them to us and they should be read carefully.

NEXT MEETING- OCT.9 AT 8:30.

 Respectfully submitted,
Polly Sanfacon
