GILFORD BOARD OF SELECTMEN’S MEETING
POLICE DEPARTMENT BUDGET REVIEW
SEPTEMBER 18, 2006
3:00 P.M.
The Board of Selectmen convened in a special session on Monday, September 18, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the Gilford Town Hall, 47 Cherry Valley Road, Gilford, NH. Selectmen present were Chairman Dennis Doten, Alice H. Boucher and Connie Grant. Also present were Town Administrator Evans E. Juris and Assistant Town Administrator Debra Shackett.
The Selectmen recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
General Budget Review – Police Department
Chief Markland and Captain Keenan did an overview of the 2007 proposed police budget.
Chief Markland stated there was an increase in the radio account due to equipment coming off of its warranty and now needed to be covered by a maintenance contract.
Additionally, he noted a $1,000 increase in the oil and tire account, which is related to the increase in the cost from $65 each to $93.00 (summer) and $97.00 (winter).
Selectman Boucher asked questions relative to the training, books and publications and uniform accounts. Chief Markland explained each account.
Additionally, she inquired about the miscellaneous line in the administrative expense account, as well as equipment and supplies and the need for software for the K-9 program. Chief Markland again explained the needs.
Selectman Grant inquired about special details and the costs related to it. This was answered by Assistant Town Administrator Shackett, Town Administrator Juris and Chief Markland.
In the capital area, Chief Markland explained the decrease in the vest account.
Captain Keenan and Chief Markland made a detailed explanation on the proposal for a new Dodge Charger Police Cruiser and Police Transport Van. They also showed a PowerPoint video. The Board of Selectmen took no action on this part of the budget, pending further information.
Selectman Boucher moved $1,424,853 for the General Police Budget. Selectman Grant seconded and it was voted unanimously.
With no further business before the Board, the Board of Selectmen’s September 18, 2006 meeting was adjourned at 4:27 p.m.
