TECHNOLOGY METHODOLOGY/ PRINCIPLES
1. Information Technology planning is accomplished across all Departments,
and at the Town level.
2. Standards are-updated as changes occur in the market and/or technology, to insure that the
Town of Gilford is prepared for “today and tomorrow”.
3. “Best Practices” processes and procedures are employed whenever feasible
4. The Town of Gilford recognizes that all systems have a limited life expectancy and plans
accordingly for replacement.
5. PC hardware is depreciated over a three-year period then replaced when feasible
and effective.
6. When feasible, all automated systems have a common "look and feel",
using appropriate Graphical User Interface technology.
7. Don’t buy the cheapest or the most expensive, but buy the “best value” for the Town,
taking into consideration such things as long term strategy and plans, existing inventory &
upgrade feasibility, specific maturity model phase applicable for the product, business need,
functionality versus obsolescence, etc.
8. Purchase and install the state-of-the-art only when it can drive down costs significantly,
or provides a major operational advantage.
9. The overall goal is to provide the Departments with seamless, transparent access and
connectivity from any network point to any information source within the town.
