DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

 

The Town of Gilford is currently accepting applications for the position of Public Works Director.  This is a year-round, full-time position with excellent benefits in accordance with the Town’s Personnel Policies.  The current starting salary range is $72,800-$87,327 DOQE.  A copy of the job description is available upon request.

 

The Public Works Director is responsible for the management and oversight of municipal highways, cemeteries, buildings & grounds, vehicle maintenance, sewer and solid waste operations under the direct supervision of the Town Administrator with general direction provided by a three member Board of Selectmen.  Duties include:  budget administration (approximately $4 million per year), purchasing of supplies and materials, contract administration, public communications, personnel management including Union relations, scheduling of assignments, project prioritization, design and implementation of maintenance strategies, enhancing employee morale, and promoting workplace safety.  The ideal candidate will have a college degree in civil engineering, a valid CDL, Master Road Scholar certification, NH-DES Principal Operator Certification, NH-DES Wastewater certification, the ability to read survey plans, the ability to prepare written reports, the ability to use a variety of computer programs and 10 years of supervisory experience in the administration of public works activities.  Additional preferences include hands-on experience performing the following tasks:  road construction; snow removal & ice control; traffic safety; pipe laying; fleet management & record-keeping; operation, maintenance and acquisition of construction equipment and submitting NH-DES & NH-DOT permit applications.

 

Applicants must be able and willing to perform physical labor and must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as-needed.  Excellent organizational and communication skills along with a proven record of dedication to superior job performance are essential.
